Introduction

What is Chindogu ?

Chindogu is a blend of 2 Japanese words chin(meaning weird) and dogu(meaning tool),The event is all about inventing something ,quite innovative but pointless. For example a Hay fever hat .This innovation aims at solving the problem of running nose by installing a tissue paper roll on the head. But how many of us would like to use this invention and carry along a paper roll on the head when you can use a handkerchief. So in short, it was a GOOD INTENTION but a BAD INVENTION.

The event is supposed to be a form of satirical humour inspired by Chindogu style products designed by some IT industries, digital goods industries, etc. For example a small mobile television set that lets you see videos when you are on a stroll. The idea is sound but the thought of walking into a lamppost while using such TVs stops us from buying them. To sum it up Chindogu at Shaastra will be a Scientific Great Indian Laughter Challenge . Following are some more such inventions which solve a problem of life but create a larger one in the process.

Event Format

The teams can select any daily life problem on their own and make a working model of a Chindogu to solve it. The team must ensure that it solves the problem but at the same time makes the usage of the model humourous. The teams have to mail in the details of the working of their Chindogu (along with a photograph if possible) to Chindogu@shaastra.org 15 best teams will be selected for the final round. In the final round the teams have to demonstrate a working model of their Chindogu supported by a detailed presentation.

The model will be judged solely on the basis of creativity of the idea or the concept involved and the humour that the model generates.(Models copied or even inspired by Chindogus available on internet will be disqualified).

So, this Shaastra invent something satirical and make people go mad laughing by some really hilarious Chindogus !

Lastly the teams need to keep in mind the following 10 tenets that define the gentle art and philosophy of Chindogu.

  • A Chindogu cannot be for real use
  • A Chindogu must exist
  • Inherent in every Chindogu is the spirit of anarchy
  • Chindogu are tools for everyday life
  • Chindogu are not for sale
  • Humor must not be the sole reason for creating a Chindogu
  • Chindogu is not propaganda
  • Chindogu are never taboo
  • Chindogu cannot be patented
  • Chindogu are without prejudice

Rules and Regulations

  • The teams can comprise of at most 3 members.
  • The model will be judged solely on the basis of creativity of the idea or the concept involved and the humour that the model generates.(Models copied or even inspired by Chindogus available on internet will be disqualified).
  • Chindogus made for solving a humbug problem just for fun shall be disqualified.
  • Since the judgement criteria is to a great extent qualitative the decision of the judge and the coordinator will be final.
