Widely acknowledged to be one of India's best Sci-Tech quizzes, a can't-miss on every technophile's calendar, the Shaastra Main Quiz (SMQ) is back this year, bigger and better. With a revamped team structure, exciting new rounds and questions from all fields of Science and Technology, this year's SMQ is sure to leave you asking for more.
If you felt that the last paragraph was a load of clichéd hyperbole, imagine this if you will: Quizzing late at night in the IIT Madras' legendary Central Lecture Theatre(CLT) with the ghosts of the great quizzers past and their heirs as your teammates and competitors, with competition so fierce you can cut the air with a knife and questions so good you'll turn into a Wikipedia-Slashdot-Wired addict before you can say Asimov.
For the mercenary minded, you can walk away from SMQ this year with a rich bounty, be it the hefty prize money or our exciting audience prizes (we're not exaggerating the 'exciting' bit).So do turn up in teams of at most three members and make a bee-line for the mother of all great sci-tech quizzes.
SMQ_Format
- SMQ 2009 will consist of a written prelims followed by two semi-finals and a final.
- All ties will be settled by tie-breaker questions which will be indicated to teams in advance in the prelims and specifically targeted at tie teams in the semi-finals and finals.
- Standard quizzing rules will apply.
SMQ_Rules and Regulations
- Only teams of three members or less can participate.
- Only school and college students are eligible to participate in the SMQ.
- The coordinators' decisions will be final, with respect to both the actual quiz and event management.
- The use of devices with internet connectivity, repositories of data and copying is strictly prohibited. Teams found engaging in malpractices will be disqualified on the spot.

If I don't make it through the prelims, what's in it for me?
You can always turn up for the semis and the finals. All you need for an enjoyable evening is a love for Sci-Tech and a good aim (think Muntadhar al-Zaidi and George W. Bush) coupled with a talent for spotting truly atrocious answers, to say nothing of those exciting audience prizes that we keep mentioning.

I don't have two team mates, can I still participate?
Of course you can. Nonetheless, coming with a full strength team may boost your chances of a good performance.
Is there a question bank or study guide from which I can prepare for the SMQ?
Like every competitive quiz/exam worth its salt, the SMQ has many question banks (sort of). We've found this one to be the best.
