Well, here's your chance. Welcome to Cinematography Workshop, which brings to you, LIVE, the technical aspects of how light and sound are incorporated in Cinema!!

Gear up for a fun trip behind the screens, exploring and unravelling the brilliance of the light and sound engineering that makes the multi-million-dollar movie industry what it is today!

No pre-requisites, no branch preference; Great enthusiasm and willingness to learn and understand something that is a blend of both Art and Science is all  you need! What are you waiting for? 

Cinematography_General Information

The Workshop will be conducted in two phases:

PHASE1:

Session 1: Lecture on Implementation of Light Effects in Cinema by Cinematographer and Movie Maker Sashikanth Anantachari.

Time: 10:30 am -12:00 noon October 3, 2009, Venue: Central Lecture Theatre

Session 2: Explanation of light and sound effect incorporation in Modern movies supplemented by screening of a documentry.

Time: 4:30 pm -5:30 pm October 3, 2009 Venue: Central Lecture Theatre

PHASE2:

Lecture on How Directorial and Creative decisions are related to Technology by Padmasree Dr S Krishnaswamy

Time: 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm October 4, 2009 Venue: Central Lecture Theatre


Cinematography_Speaker Profile

Padmashri  Dr S Krishnaswamy

Writer-Producer-Director Dr S Krishnaswamy received the coveted Lifetime Achievement Award conferred by the US International Film & Video Festival, Los Angeles, and became the first Afro-Asian recipient of this honor in 40 years of that festival.

He has won 4 National Awards for his films and held several prominent positions in the past such as:

        • Secretary of the Jury for International Film Festival of India
        • Chairman of the Jury for National Film Awards for Non-Fiction films
He is a founder and Managing Trustee of The Catalyst Trust, a Civil Society organisation, with 200 Citizens Centers in Tamilnadu.

Cinematographer and Director Sashikanth Ananthachari

Sashikanth is an alumnus of the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune.

After completing his course in Cinema with a specialization in Cinematography, he worked for many years in Calcutta as a cinematographer shooting many feature films, art house cinemas, and documentaries.

He was cinematographer for many national-award winning films such as Kaal Abhirati (Bengali, 1989), Ek ti rasta hobo, and Yugant (Bengali, 1995). Critically acclaimed for his movie Veli, The Open, currently he is producing, directing, and photographing Kelai Draupadi, a documentary on the Draupadi Amman cult in Tamilnadu.

Date: Day 2 (2 October)

Time: 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm


Registration will be done on First Come First Serve Basis. It is most likely that you will be registered if you come anytime between 2 and 5. We might open the registration on Day 3 between 8:00 am and 9:30 am depending on the registrations on Day 2.

1. Do I have to register for this workshop?

No. No pre-registration required. However, the registration on the spot during Shaastra will be done on a first-come-first serve basis.

2. Are there any pre-requisties to attend this in terms of an idea about how films are made?

Not at all. After all, if you already knew all about it, why would you be attending the workshop in the first place? No matter how technical the lecture gets, it will start with the basics. 

3. Do I get accomodation if I'm attending this workshop?

This issue is handled by the Hospitality section of Shaastra-2008; hence the participants are requested to contact them.

4. Is this a department specific workshop?

No. It is open to students of all departments.
