If you think that only a 4 wheeled machine with a V12 engine, power steering, dual air bags, blind spot monitor and what-not will get you around the city, then you are no dumber than Homer Simpson. Because, our good 'old' Bedrock Fred has already achieved all this in the Jurassic age!
What if we shift one gear down to an age without engines and electronics and throw a challenge at you? Your task is to step in to the shoes of Da Vinci and build the ultimate machine that runs purely on mechanical energy.
What we are looking for is not a spark in an engine (or in some cases, in a circuit!), just a little one in your head. So, no electronic circuits, IC engines, motors allowed... But remember,
“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication” - Leonardo Da Vinci
The event comprises of two rounds:
1. Prelims – First the design specifications will be checked which will be followed by a set of tests (based on the specified parameters) on your design. The details of these tests are mentioned in the problem statement.
2. Finals – This would be a “one-on-one” round for the qualified teams. You have to design the machine for this round only; the first round is just an elimination round.
All the teams are required to submit the design specifications of their solution, which would involve a write up along with some images of the machine and its parts. This is to check the originality of the design and for its approval.
