Total prize money worth Rs.50000 to be won!
“It doesn't matter if you win by an inch or a mile. Winning's winning.”
It’s just you and the finish line. Time slows down and the world stands still as you feel the adrenaline rushing through you. To be the last man standing is your worst nightmare.
For those who believe in fuel for thought, sniffing octane is not the only way to get high. Here at Fire N ICE we promise you a sheer exhilarating experience that will turn your world upside down for good.
IC engines have been hauling people from point A to point B for years; it is up to you to unleash their true potential. All we ask of you at Fire & ICE is to design and build an RC beast of your own and we will see if it can take what we throw at it.
Because, we don’t believe in speed limits.
Because, we say the winner takes it all.
Because, we know you are an ENGINEer at heart – Fire N ICE – Shaastra 2010.
Event Format
TEAM DESCRIPTION PAPER
Participants have to fill and submit the Team Description Paper, describing
their machine before the competition. The TDP will be used to shortlist
teams for the competition. Only shortlisted teams will be eligible to
participate in Fire N ICE at Shaastra 2010. The last date of submitting the
portfolio is 4th September 2010. All TDPs will be used strictly for
elimination purposes. The TDP is meant to assess the efforts put in by the
participants. Thus even if you are not able to meet the requirements
asked in the TDP, please send it to us based on the current state of your
machine before the deadline, i.e., even if your machine is incomplete,
send us the TDP anyway.
The pictures are meant for visual inspection. If structural parts are found
to have been taken from ready made kits, the team will be disqualified.
For shortlisted participants:
PRELIMS:
Day 1 - PERFORMANCE ROUND:
Teams will have to make their way through an oval track with some
payload in two different time trials. (Please note that you will have to be
able to tie a rope onto your vehicle so as to attach the payload) 15 teams
will be selected from this round to participate in the Design round the
next day.
Day 2 - DESIGN PRESENTATION:
Teams must present their vehicle to the audience and the judge(s)
explaining the various subsystems.
In this round teams are required to make a PPT presentation of not more
than 15 slides and the duration not exceeding 10 minutes.
The presentation should only brief about the main subsystems: The
Chassis, Suspension(if used), Steering, Transmission systems-type, how
each was manufactured, how each is unique etc. The presentation may
also include any problem(s) faced and how it was solved.
Teams must bring their vehicles for display purposes only (i.e., no need to
start the engine).
The best designed tank will be given maximum points in this round. The
rest of the teams will be awarded points scaled accordingly. Around 8
teams will now be selected for the finals.
Day 4 - FINALS: The finals will have two rounds.
ROUND 1:
The first round will have a progressive ramp, i.e a ramp with increasing
slope. The ramp will have a discrete increase in the slope. The vehicles will
be tested on their pulling power in this round. The point where the vehicle
is able to stop without slipping for a specified amount of time will be
considered. A computer model of the ramp will be put up soon.
ROUND 2:
Teams will be tested on their vehicle’s rigidity, reliability, maneuverability
and also on their driver’s skills. The vehicle will have to make its way
through a course with loose sand, ramps and pits filled with water in three
different timed trials. The winner will be judged based on the performance
in these two rounds and the design of the machine. First, Second and
Third places are up for grabs. Teams can expect a very challenging and
demanding track replicating the conditions of a battle field.
Please keep checking the site for updates.

Please note that we are not vouching for this seller or guaranteeing his product. This is just a seller whom we know of.
6) Can we turn the tank using a front guide wheel in the center?
A) No.
7) Do I need to incorporate a steering system to complete the tasks mentioned?
A) A steering system has to be used as the tracks (obstacle course) will require the vehicle to be highly manoeuvrable.
8) Should the track be similar to that of a real tanker? Any restrictions on the material of the track?
A) It is enough if the track is functional. But making it look like a real tank will get you brownie points in the design round. There are no restrictions on the material of the track.
9) Is use of 2 sprockets a must?
A) No. Having a second sprocket gives you a flexibility to reverse the tracks.
10) Any restriction on material & type of wheels?
A) No restrictions.
11) Can idlers and return rollers be used?
A) The idlers and return rollers can be used. There is no restriction on using the idlers and return rollers. But they should not be powered or support the weight of the chassis.
